Yves Saint Laurent elevated haute couture to art and his fashion shows were breathtakingly spectacular. He was highly innovative and enriched women's fashion with his androgynous classics.

Saint Laurent came to Paris from Algeria to study fashion. Soon he became Christian Dior's right-hand man and, after the latter's death, his successor within the Dior fashion house. In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent founded his own fashion house with Pierre Bergé. He designed his famous pantsuit "Le Smoking" and his Mondrian dress, made the leather biker jacket mainstream and managed to amaze the fashion world with his unique blend of luxury and artistic drama.
